Passive house has gone through different phases in the past decade in China, from its preliminary concept, cognitive transformation, and projects implementation to the formulation of standards. It has achieved all-round development from the multiple aspects, ranging from national or local policy, standard, technology, product itself, management, industry organization, to engineering projects. Abundant construction experience has been accumulated as well.
The standards for passive house have been gradually established. Sharing Platforms for Standards of Testing and Materials (CSTM), which is the first specific organization to serve the development of the passive house in China, issued CSTM 00325 “Technical Standard for Residential Passive House Ventilation ”; CSTM 00324 “Elastomer Modified Asphalt Waterproof Membrane for Passive House" ; CSTM 00395 “EPS for Exterior Wall and Roof Insulation of Passive Houses” ; CSTM 00396 “PVC-U Plastic Exterior Window for Passive Houses”; CSTM 00408 “Cement Adhesive and Plaster for Insulation of Exterior Wall on Passive House”; CSTM 00480 "Passive ICF System" .
With the promulgation and implementation of these standards, quality of parts or materials used on passive house will be inspected and greatly improved according to articles laid out by the standards.
Major breakthroughs have been made in key materials and products for passive houses. Materials and products that represent the advanced level of the industry, such as plastic windows, A-rated fireproof passive doors, barrier-free exterior doors, EPS panels with low fire risk, EPS ICF, and long-life waterproof coil insulation material have been put into the market, which provide great support in improving the construction quality of passive houses in China.
Passive houses have grown from small-scale pilot demonstration to large-scale construction in China. By August 2020, China's governments at all levels had promulgated 115 policies to encourage passive buildings. Large - scale passive houses have been built in Hebei and Shandong provinces. Even in the absence of policy support, cities in southern China began to build passive houses on a large scale, such as Zhejiang, Sichuan has more than 100,000 square meters of passive housing residential areas.
The passive houses can greatly reduce the social terminal energy consumption, and even play a positive role in the strategical implementation of rural revitalization, regional coordinated development, sustainable development and healthy China, as well as meeting people's ever-growing needs for a better life. "China will increase its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), adopt more forceful policies and measures, and strive to peak its CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060," President Xi Jinping said at the UN General Assembly on Sept 22. 2020. As a member in the green building industry, we will continuously promote the development of China's passive buildings, always adhere to the strategy of ecological civilization development, and strive to achieve "carbon neutral" at the neighborhood, community and city levels as soon as possible, always staying true to our original aspiration and mission.
